Lisa La Brasca
For Lisa La Brasca, gymnastics has always been a big part of her life. When she was a young girl, she was a club gymnast. While she enjoyed it, she wished for something more recreational. Lisa's goal was to bring a gymnastic school that was fun and affordable to her local community, because every child should experience the great sport of gymnastics. She saw the talent that many kids possessed, and so her goal was to train them in bettering their skills in an enjoyable environment. Since the founding of her gym, Lisa has been a stable presence at the Quarry Gymnastic Center. When the students come to train they will always have Lisa there to help them.
Lisa also has two kids: a daughter that is 24 and a son who is 18. Her son is a fellow gymnast and trainer at the Quarry Gymnastic Center. Her daughter recently graduated from Edinboro University with a master’s degree in communication studies. Aside from gymnastics, Lisa is also a second degree black belt in World Tang Soo Do karate. Both karate and gymnastics have taught Lisa to overcome some life’s hardest obstacles. In 2008 Lisa was diagnosed with Acral Lentiginous Melanoma, a rare cancer that was found under her thumbnail. Luckily, her cancer was caught and she was treated by having half of her thumb removed. It was a big adjustment as it changed the way she spotted and trained her students. However, it also taught her to be strong and to enjoy the little things in life. Lisa is very grateful to the community because they have been so supportive, and have helped make it the successful business that it is now.
While teaching at the Quarry, La Brasca taught the DuBois High School gymnastics team in the late 1980’s, as well as from 1992-1994. For the gymnastic seasons of 1992-1994 her gymnastics team took home
the District title for DuBois. After the 1994 season, Lisa left coaching
and solely focused on The Quarry Gymnastic Center.
In 2004 she moved on to her next venture. She brought the first All-Star cheerleading teams to the area, and has continued that to this day.
